The Opening and Launch

Ekponimo and other guests were on hand yesterday for the official opening of Gallery of Code which included the Austrian Ambassador to Nigeria, represented by Mrs Karin Pregler, Consul General at the Austrian Embassy, Mr Ife Adebayo, S.A to the Vice President on Innovation & Entrepreneurship as well as representatives of the Japanese Embassy, UNESCO and Universal Service Provisioning Fund (USPF). In discussing the collaboration and mission of the lab, Ekponimo said, “Ars Electronica brings a global network of advanced scientific and technological know-how, I am confident that Gallery of Code will be the epicentre of revolutionary inventions and innovation that solves many of African challenges” In her remarks the representative of the Austrian Ambassador to Nigeria Mrs Karin Pregler said the research lab is an initial pilot and is one of the ways the Austrian mission facilitates exchange and cooperation between Austrian entities and countries in which they work.
Speaking at the event the S.A on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Office of the Vice President Mr Ife Adebayo expounded on the current administrations drive to support initiatives such as Gallery of Code and its continuous commitment to foster entrepreneurship and innovation in Nigeria.
An open call for submissions from technologists, students and the creative community was announced to bring in the first cohorts for the centre.  Through knowledge transfer programs, international exchanges and residencies between partner technology institutions; creative solutions to challenges in Africa in key thematic areas will be developed and nurtured to viable innovations The research lab is actualized through strategic partnership with Ars Electronica; a Science, Arts and Technology Research Institutions based in Austria with funding support from the Austrian Government.

The Gallery of Code vision, encapsulated as “Knowledge Localization” seeks to leverage advanced technology and expertise to develop innovative solutions to problems in Africa for multifarious thematic areas including; Agriculture, Smart Green Energy Technologies, Health, Media Arts and Education as core thematic areas. Malachi Richardson Jersey
